Peace. I Wish I Knew How.
20in x 24in oil on canvas painting. In response to the KKK violence in Charlottesville, VA in August, 2017.
Theses self portraits are painted from life. Sometimes that also means from memory, from dreams, or from feelings too. I start with the face, when either the light or my hair seem particularly interesting that day. Then the story begins to unfold and I will add elements from life, or from my mind. The more I paint this face, the more this has become a kind of diary of technique, mood, and empowerment. No where else can I move through life the way I can when I am painting. But I wish I could.
